This year the RVA Community Makers art project is created by sculptor Kourtenay Plummer and inspired by Fred Wilson's No Way But This. Wilson's thought-provoking chandelier, which was recently added to the VMFA collection and now hangs near the museum's historic 1936 entrance, challenges colonial assumptions on history, culture, and race, as well as ideas of the western canon and power relations in institutions.
Inspired by No Way But This, Plummer's 3D ceramic vessels honor four community members whose unwavering commitment and life-changing contributions have made an impact on the Richmond community. These honorees have utilized their passions, talents, and skills to be of service to others. VMFA is proud to celebrate the following 2025 honorees:
David Marion and Tiara Green
Taylor Scott
Corey Taylor
RVA Community Makers presented by VMFA is an annual community-activated art project led by artist Hamilton Glass. Coinciding with VMFA’s celebration of Black History Month, the yearly art project honors African American community leaders selected for their impacts and inspirational stories.
