Infants (3 to 15 months)

In VMFA’s Early Childhood Education programs, infants, toddlers, and preschool age children discover the world around them through playing, singing, exploring, and creating. Held in the classroom, galleries, and studio, these programs foster children’s development, early literacy, autonomy, and decision-making skills.

Studio Class

[EA9] Artsy Infants | Nature Babies (Ages 3-14 months)

Ages 3–14 months, with an adult | Spend time in the Sculpture Garden, and create your own nature-inspired work of art.

[EW13] Wee-Kids Workshops | My Face, Your Face (Ages 3-14 months)

Ages 3–14 months, with an adult | Find faces, feelings, and figures throughout the galleries to explore themes of identity. Then represent yourself in art with dynamic materials.

[EA1] Artsy Infants | Wonderful, Colorful You (Ages 3-14 months)

Ages 3–14 months, with an adult | Pause before vibrant paintings in the galleries and paint with bright colors while exploring your baby’s visual capacity in this color-focused class.

[EA2] Artsy Infants | My Face, Your Face (Ages 3-14 months)

Ages 3–14 months, with an adult | Examine portraits and explore facial expressions while viewing works of art. Watch your baby’s enthusiastic responses as we explore mirrors and music along the way.

[EA3] Artsy Infants | Hearts and Happiness (Ages 3-14 months)

Ages 3–14 months, with an adult | Spend time in the galleries exploring social emotional themes of bonding in works of art in VMFA’s collection. Along the way, sing, snuggle, and create together.

[EA4] Artsy Infants | Musical Mini-Me (Ages 3-14 months)

Ages 3–14 months, with an adult | Tap a tempo, feel the beat, clap your hands, and stomp your feet! Venture into the galleries to find instruments and create tempo-related art projects.

[EA5] Artsy Infants | Splish, Splash, Clap! (Ages 3-14 months)

Ages 3–14 months, with an adult | Enjoy a sensational class filled with water play, seascapes, and water-inspired art materials.

[EW1] Wee-Kids Workshops | Sun, Sea, and Me (Ages 3-14 months)

Ages 3–14 months, with an adult | Use your senses to enjoy water play, investigations of rocks, sand, creatures, and mixed-media art making.

[EW4] Wee-Kids Workshops | Playful Patterns (Ages 3-14 months)

Ages 3–14 months, with an adult | Discover patterns in imagery and music making across VMFA’s campus, then explore the use of repetition in active, animated art making.
